Putting heart into leather
Savoir-faire
More than four weeks are required to turn raw hide into finished leather. The Haas Tanneries work with a natural product, master it and shape it.
Our raw material
The majority of our skins come from carefully selected French and European breeders. Coming out of the beamhouse, the skin is still a fragile and unstable material which will become leather after the tanning operation.
The skin keeps its temper
Each skin is different. Once tanned, the grain discloses all of its natural features. After a strict selection, the skins are oriented towards specific sale orders. It is a customized work on the client’s request.
Currying
Whether dry or wet, the currying process consists in passing the skins through many successive stages. They are stretched, steamed, dried, flattened, softened.
Each hide can be handled over a hundred times from arrival to finished leather.
Finishing
The whole challenge in this process lies in treating the leather in order to homogenize its color and give it all the desired aspects. It is a matter of dosage and observation as the finishing must be light and natural.
This way, in an almost poetic move, the material gets on all of its shininess and its touch, until finally be shown to the client.
