Aloïse Haas (1800-1868) turned an old spinning mill into a slipper factory to which he added a tannery for the manufacturing of the slipper soles. He also created the Andlau River's diversion canal which still supplies the Haas Tanneries today.
Emile Haas (1840-1904) succeeded his father. He gave up the slippers factory but kept the tannery. He replaced sole leather by 'white calf' which is an upholstery leather tanned with oak and chestnut bark extracts. This innovation participated in the firm's economic growth.
Alfred Haas (1877-1950) started the Box calf production, which is a chrome calf leather. This new tannage required deep changes in the tannery.
Jacques-Alfred Haas (1909 – 1989) joined the company and the tannery started the production of 'spinning Calf', a technical roller leather meant to sheat muffs of spinning machines . In the 50's, he invented a thick and mellow leather with a unique feel: the Novocalf®, which was awarded with the gold medal at the Brussels World Fair in 1958. At the same time, shoe leathers are developing.
Roland Muller, who is Jacques-Alfred Haas's son-in-law, took over the business and diversified the production into the fashion industry of leather goods and clothing.
Jean-Christophe Muller, who is Roland Muller's son, carry on the development of the Haas Tanneries.

In Alsace, which is historically a land of tanners, six generations have succeeded since 1842 at the head of the Haas Tanneries.
They have successfully gone through the test of time and have adapted to new techniques. The Haas Tanneries have left their mark in the leather industry.
They went from oak and chestnut bark tannage to chrome tanning. They went from Box calf and roller leather production to the creation of the Novocalf® and the Novonappa®. Then they developped in leather goods and clothing markets.
